Latest CPU Processors for 2012
Gaming CPU List
My choice for best gaming CPU of 2012 is
still the i5-2500k which continues to decline in price due to Intel's
release of Ivy Bridge. As far as in-game performance it gives you the
best overall value. The i7-3770k will probably turn out to be the most
popular Ivy Bridge processor of the year, while the i7-2700k and i7-3820
(socket 2011) also make great options. AMD Gamers should go for the AMD
FX 8150, 8120, or even consider the low-priced Phenom II X4 965 as a
budget option.
Intel Core i7-2600K Processor
There are a few key
performance differences between the i7-2600k vs. the i5-2500k, but in
the game you'll see little to no difference in overall performance. The
i7-2600k has hyperthreading and 8MB of Cache rather than 6MB. I own the
i7-2600k simply because I wanted the hyperthreading for my particular
line of work, but if your rig is just for gaming, then go with the
i5-2500k and save yourself $100 bucks. Those that have around $300 for
their budget will most likely go for the i7-2600k, the i7-2700k, the
i7-3820, or the Ivy Bridge i7-3770k.

If you're on a budget, then consider the 2500k for about a hundred dollars cheaper than the 2600k. Its based on the all new architecture as well and has speeds similar to the 2600k. The main difference is that it doesn't have hyperthreading technology, but with 4 cores/4 tasks at once you'll still be fine unless you really need the performance.

The X4 965 is still
in the top ten for bestselling CPU of 2012. Great 4 core performance
for a fraction of the price of the new Bulldozer CPU. As far as in-game
performance you won't be able to tell the difference between this and
AMD's new Bulldozer CPU.
Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2 1 LGA 2011 Processor - BX80619I73930K
This CPU
incorporates Socket 2011 for use with the all new X79 chipset that is
forward compatible with Ivy Bridge-e (enthusiast) CPU.
